International Summit on Energy, 6 - 7 February

World Energy Policy Summit set energy transition on the stage in New Delhi on 6-7 February. This by-invitation-only conference gathers representatives from around the world. Ocean Hyway Cluster (OHC) was present at the summit.

Most important global energy topics were covered followed by discussions among leading international professionals. Trond Strømgren, Head of R&D in OHC, delivered a speech on the topic Energy Transition – Maritime Hydrogen in Norway. The presentation was received very well by the participants. - I think Norwegian competence and technical solution can play a role in the future Indian maritime energy systems, says Strømgren.

Zero emission maritime hydrogen technology solutions are now being integrated in vessels that will be operating in Norwegian waters. The global impact from reduced maritime emissions in Norway will though be very limited. Implementing zero emission technology in the Indian fleet, both for inland waterways and coastal/ open sea operations, will however give a significant impact.

OHC interacts closely with Innovation Norway in India. Pankaj R. Patil at the Mumbai office has organised a three-day round-trip for Strømgren this week, including meetings with departments, organisations, industry and universities in Mumbai and Chennai, the maritime capitals of India. Based on results from the meetings, OHC will link Norwegian maritime hydrogen and energy players to relevant Indian players. The first goal is to find mutual topics for collaboration. Next goal is the collaboration to add value in both countries and at the same time contribute to reduced emissions from the maritime sector.

OHC thanks the ONS Foundation for coordinating the Norwegian contribution at the summit. Ingvild Meland also did a great job chairing the session Innovation, Technology & Energy Governance. Most of all we give our warmest thanks to Mr. Narendra Taneja for organising World Energy Policy Summit and for his brilliant balance between professional approach to important topics and a personal touch. – It was an honour to be part of the event, says Strømgren.

Mr. Taneja ended this year’s summit by quoting Mahatma Gandhi to the audience:

“Do not only talk about change. You must be the change you want to see in the world.”

OHC and the cluster members promise to follow up.
