HyInfra 4.0

Ocean Hyway Cluster has developed a powerful calculation tool that estimates potential energy demand based on ship traffic data in Norway—sorted by location and vessel type.

Whether you’re exploring new markets or planning strategic investments, our tool provides insights to support your decisions in the emerging value chain for new maritime fuels. We offer a tailored analysis to match your business needs.

Application Area:

  • Actors looking to establish themselves in the energy supply value chain for shipping

    • Where is the greatest market potential?

      • Can be filtered by different ship types, based on expected demand for hydrogen, ammonia, or batteries.

    • Where should the production of hydrogen carriers be established?

    • Where should a bunkering station be located?

    • Where should power production take place?

Analyses can be based on:

  • Time period

  • Location (municipality, port, passage line, etc.)

  • Ship type and/or main dimensions

Some Findings:

  • Alver Municipality is the fourth busiest in Norway in terms of arrivals but has the highest potential bunkering demand

  • Although Alstahaug Municipality has more arrivals than Narvik Municipality, Narvik has more than 15 times the potential bunkering demand

  • Bergen has neither the highest number of arrivals nor the largest bunkering demand

  • Oslo Municipality has the highest potential bunkering demand from container ships

  • Kristiansund Municipality ranks in the top 10 for arrivals but only 18th in annual potential bunkering demand
