Zero Emission Supply Chain

Through the ZESC program, the partners will identify existing initiatives to reduce emissions and help generate new industrial activities and projects that will support the decarbonization of the supply chain. Looking at the whole supply chain and not individual activities can become important to achieve these goals. Zero Emission Supply Chain will map all processes and activities in the logistics supply chain by highlighting where it is possible to achieve significant reductions in carbon emissions.

With this information available, it is possible to identify potential initiatives, but also generate various proposals for zero-emission initiatives and projects. The supply base in Florø is a pilot, but the methodology and results from this program will have value at Neptune Energy Norway AS and Equinor ASA's other supply locations.

Milestones

  • 2023, May: Status update from the project

  • 2023, January: Startup of work package B

  • 2022, December: Work package A completed

  • 2022, March: Startup of programme.

Background

The Norwegian oil and gas industry gives NOK 45 billion to the Norwegian community and 205,000 employed each the year. But this is also an industry tied to carbon emissions, and the Norwegian oil and gas industry therefore has ambitions to reduce its emissions by 2030.

The energy company Equinor ASA and Neptune Energy Norway AS raised their ambitions for CO2 cuts. Neptune Energy will now store more carbon dioxide (CO2) than released from operation and usage of sold products by 2030, while Equinor's new strategy is to reduce 70% of emissions by 2040. Neptune Energy Norway AS and Equinor ASA have signed a partnership agreement with Ocean Hyway Cluster to initiate the Zero Emission Supply Chain programme.

Program partners

Ocean Hyway Cluster, a cluster working on the realization of hydrogen-based fuels in the maritime sector, is the leader of the program. Equinor ASA and Neptune Energy Norway AS are owners of the program. Fjordbase Holding AS has signed a partnership agreement with Hub for Ocean and Ocean Hyway Cluster where they will be a central actor in the development of the program.
