Partnering with Vestland County Council

Vestland County Council signs a partnership agreement with Ocean Hyway Cluster to realize hydrogen infrastructure in the Vestland region of Norway.

Vestland County has high ambitions for reducing climate emissions, as well as incentivising green and sustainable industries. Hydrogen is key to reducing emissions from shipping and Norway's leading network for maritime use of hydrogen, Ocean Hyway Cluster (OHC), has a national mandate to realize the new hydrogen value chains. The newly signed agreement aims to speed up the development of the hydrogen infrastructure in Vestland.

Navigate the future

The development and adoption of hydrogen as a fuel require sharing knowledge and close collaboration across the hydrogen value chains. Partnering with Vestland County Council is an opportunity to highlight the current barriers in the region and collaborate to find great solutions.

The renewal of the partnership agreement is a great vote of confidence from Vestland county that the cluster has an important role in connecting actors and knowledge in the realization of hydrogen value chains in Vestland. We look forward to the future collaboration with Vestland County Council, says Kristin Svardal, CEO of Ocean Hyway Cluster.

Western Norway has access to great amounts of renewable energy and therefore good conditions to produce hydrogen-based fuels without emissions. Hydrogen and ammonia can be used in a broad range of applications, from transportation to industry processes and storage of energy. The development of a hydrogen infrastructure in Western Norway can lead to export opportunities and more green jobs in the region.

Hydrogen is among the value chains with high export potential highlighted in the «Vestlandscenarios 2020». With our national as well as regional maritime tradition, and the challenges facing shipping and other maritime activities, Ocean Hyway Cluster has an important role to play, says Audun Erik Sunde, senior advisor in Vestland County Council.

We look forward to the future collaboration on hydrogen value chains in Vestland!
