German-Norwegian workshop on digitalisation and decarbonisation in the maritime sector
“I am thrilled to represent an important part of the Norwegian maritime sector in our joint efforts towards reducing emissions from the maritime sector”
Martin Hennum, Export Manager, Ocean Hyway Cluster
Tomorrow Martin Hennum is off to Hamburg to meet the rest of Team Norway and key players from the maritime business in Germany, all thanks to our partners in the German-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce.
Norway and Germany are working closely together at all levels to build the new hydrogen value chain in Europe. The maritime sector has a huge potential in cutting emissions from their own vessels and operations, as well as from being a partner in transporting hydrogen and ammonia from Norway to the European continent and building the much-needed infrastructure on land and in ports.
The Ocean Hyway Cluster has members and partners who are working on all levels within the value chain, and the projects the cluster are involved in are key in developing a fully functional value chain:
The world’s first Ammonia Fuel Bunkering Network
Ammonia-fuelled bulk ship Viridis Bulk Carriers
Retrofitting of ships into low emissions in the Retro-fit project
But it’s not all about ships and the maritime, even road contractors may use hydrogen from our member #NorwegianHydrogen to create emission-free asphalt: Veidekke and Norwegian Hydrogen sign contract for supply of green hydrogen to asphalt production
Together with our strong technical team and our almost 80 members, we strongly believe that Norwegian companies can partner up with large maritime and industrial players in Europe to cut emissions fast in the next few years. Germany is key in achieving these goals, and we are looking forward to this week in Hamburg but also to participate at the #Hannovermesse in April!
More Cluster Catch-up
“To succeed with the green shift, there needs to a sustainable plan to secure long term availability for all the alternatives fuel for ship owners to understand how to best invest in future fuels solutions”.
“Climate action and the need to transform the global shipping industry into lower emission solutions is the market opportunity of our lifetime”.
- Our commitment to sustainability is not just about doing the right thing. It also makes good business sense. Steven Lua in Unitrove.
“The Norwegian Ocean Technology Centre represents our biggest opportunity going forward.” - Anders Valland.
TechnipFMC making great progress with the Deep Purple™ pilot project. It is scheduled to begin testing in January 2023.
“Tomorrow’s zero emission technology must be extremely fuel flexible”- Torleif Stokke, Alma Clean Power.
HAV Group recently took an important step toward commercializing their hydrogen solutions.
“Together with our partners we ensure a circular industrial symbiosis, and motivation to increase the utilization of all the added resources”.
“With our ongoing project to establish hydrogen production through our company H2 Production, we will be one of the first actors to commercially offer hydrogen in Norway”.
In order to reach a future that is fully renewable, with zero emissions, we believe that we need an efficient global market for hydrogen. Not just to decarbonize the “hard-to-electrify” sectors, but also to ensure access to renewable power everywhere.
“Green hydrogen is one of the main pillars of the EU Green Deal, and it is important that Norway sets the appropriate objectives and measure to support this important industry in its infancy.”
“Hydrogen will be especially interesting when it can take advantage of the surplus of renewable energy production”.
“Introduction of hydrogen-based fuels is the single most important mean to cut emissions in a sector that currently emits 1,1 billion metric tons of CO2 per year.”
“We believe that supporting large scale projects will introduce economies of scale and increased innovation in technology and implementation – thus pushing the prices down for future projects”.
“Efficient utilization of available resources and successful project execution will rely on the ability to bring together the right people with the right competence.”
"Collaboration is necessary if we are to reach our common goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions."
“Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do, and our primary focus is to develop new technology that will help the international maritime industry become more sustainable.”
“I believe we will see a future where battery electric vehicles and fuel cell electric vehicles will both be a part of the solution, batteries for short range and fuel cells for long range.”
“Norway has ample supply of renewable energy , as well as vast fossil resources that can be converted to blue Hydrogen with CCS . This is a fantastic position to be in” Jan Kjetil Paulsen, Canima Services
